Sunday Morning Worship

In Hosea 4–10, God moves from the picture of Hosea's unfaithful wife to the unfaithfulness of Israel, His own people. They had forgotten Him and turned to other gods, and violence and broken commandments followed (4:1–2). Because God is holy, He judges sin, and Israel would fall to Assyria from outside and to its own corruption from within (5:9, 11). Their love was "like a morning cloud" (6:4), outward religion without real repentance. The warning for us today comes down to arrogance and apathy: thinking we don't need God, and then no longer seeking Him. Like the lukewarm church in Laodicea (Revelation 3:15–17), we need to let God peel back the layers of our lives and show us how much we need Him.
